Bug Description
I'm using Linux Mint Debian Edition. The screen brightness of my laptop (Compaq Presario CQ61) returns to its default brightness setting when I click on preferences of the battery applet. This happens when I'm on battery mode.

Linux Mint 10, Compiz, Kernel Linux birke 2.6.35-22-generic #35-Ubuntu SMP Sat Oct 16 20:36:48 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux, Ubuntu Mandriva packages, 32 bit system, Laptop, synaptics touchpad
I have the same problem and it is reported in many newsgroups.
Any change of battery state changes brightness to default, which means less than 100%.
Settings can be changed back by
"sudo echo -n 100 > /proc/acpi/ video/DGFX/ LCD/brightness "
but this needs su pass.
And is not nice.
The behavior does not depend on any power manager, neither gnome nor kde not xfce.
I have not found any responsible parameter in /etc/acpi nor at another place in /etc.
