LMDE- Must set timezone after every reboot.

Bug Description

I am using LMDE with GNOME. All updates applied.

The problem is that the clock applet location is not persistent. I must manually press "set" on my location in order to enable the weather report, for example.

It asks me for the root password when I press Set.

If I press Cancel, it will say:

"Failed to set the system timezone

Not Authorized for action org.gnome.clockapplet.mechanism.settimezone"

It's not a showstopper, but it's annoying nevertheless.

I, too, am having this annoying problem. I would love to see a fix to this problem and to find out exactly what caused this problem that doesn't exist on LM 9.

Same problem here. Tried creating a pkla file with this text:

[Clock setting allowed for all]
Identity=unix-user:*
Action=org.gnome.clockapplet.mechanism.settimezone
ResultAny=no
ResultInactive=no
ResultActive=yes

To no apparent effect.

The interesting thing is that the LMDE on my desktop which is connected to the Internet by a cable does not have this problem, but this laptop which uses WLAN does.

I solved a bit of this. The system time zone must be set to the preferred weather time zone via system tools. For some reason, the system time zone wasn't set to the right place. Now the weather report persists from session to session.
