This has been going on for a long time apparently. It might not be harmful, but I think it's a good practice not to leave zombie child processes...

This is still happening in Linux Mint 11. While it may not be, strictly speaking, harmful, it makes it so firefox will not relaunch after being closed as it checks to see if there is already a firefox-bin running, which it thinks there is though it is only a zombie process.

After upgrading to LMDE Update Pack 7, launching pidgin from menu , pidgin immediately becomes zombie.

Is this still a bug in a currently supported Mint release (Maya, Nadia, Petra, or LMDE)? If not, this report should be marked as Invalid

Also - is this a bug in mintmenu, or pidgin?

This was/is a bug with mintmenu not pidgin.

I can't confirm whether this still happens or not since I do not use Mint any more. Maybe the others can clarify.
