Hey Michael.
.gvfs is in many ways a special folder. A google search for it will reveal much.. In simple (and also imprecise) speech it's a mount point for stuff like folders shared over the network. You may not use it but it's there for you anyways.
Problem is that it's *designed* to be visible to you as a user, but not to the root (exactly what you describe with the reddish, aka root nautilus). This is a bit out of the norm, but the controversy regarding is of a different matter.
Now, the mintbackup internally runs as root and can't backup the folder although it knows it should be there. So, it skips it and displays an error AFTER completing it's task.
Good news is that .gvfs is just a placeholder so there's nothing to backup in it. Also, everything else runs fine for the other files.
It really is a nuance to the user, and a headache to programmers which might depend on checking for errors to continue on to other tasks when running from a shell script or something similar. But to you, it's not critical.
So, to my knowledge, and until this is fixed someway or another, I dare say that there are no ill side-effects to the backup from this error. Of course, more knowledgeable people could shed more light or confirm this to certainty.
