Bug Description

Linux Mint 9 RC

After install, the computer was working without problems and out nowhere, the screen just began flickering AND TURNING ON AND OFF, while I was in firebox surfing. This is occurring on my desktop so you can actually HEAR the monitor turning on and off. On the screen apprears the text WITH the quotation marks "unknown parameter encountered" (I I can see it correctly because of the constant turning on and off.

I restarted the computer and it was working fine for some time. but the same thing happened again. This time, I was in the Software Manager and was in the middle of installing VLC. Also, at the same time I was copying files from one partition to another. This time I clearly saw that it sayd "Unknown parameter encountered" because a second after taht, the screen began doring the flickering and turning on and off.

Since this behaviour occurred twice and the tasks I was doing at the time that started were unrelated, I suppose this is something that was not caused by my actions.

I just want to mention that I had been using Mint 8 since the first week of its release but I never had even a similar problem like the one I am having now. So I suppose some previously working feature had been messed up.

Can you provide more information about your graphic card? Can you paste the output of the command "lspci"?

By the way I tested the power management and it works properly. When the display turns off and then you move the mouse, it DOES turn back on again. So at least we know that the problem is somewhere else.
