Resume normal boot in recovery mode is does not work right

Resume normal boot ends in a console
After log in it is possible to use startx to get to the desktop
Must have come with some update this year because it worked last year for main
Tested Helena main and shut down and restart in the quit menu are grayed out, keyboard layout wrong
Tested in Helena KDE and shut down and restart in the quit menu had disappeared but the keyboard layout was OK
Tested in Gloria main which was OK

Just checked and it is still there in Helena main
Furthermore sudo shutdown now gets you to the Recovery mode menu - it does not shut down

It's in a fully updated Karmic in Virtualbox
Only Restart and Shutdown works due to gnome menu
We should keep an eye on this and fix it Restart and Shutdown the problem still remains in Lucid
