Bug Description

on Gloria XFCE RC1:

1) Menu > Admin > XFCE mintDesktop
2) Compiz Fusion > Enable > Apply
3) Reboot
4) Observe that windows open borderless (with neither xfwm/compiz running)
5) Observe that repeating steps 1+2 re-enables compiz borders

originally:
With Compiz on I get a nice green title bar a red x and so on. When I reboot any window I open goes to the top of the screen and only the menu bar is visible. When I check the Compiz setting they are disable. Re-enabling them brings the nice green title bar back.

Thank you for reporting a bug in Linux Mint. Unfortunately I cannot reproduce your problem, so it's likely that you've changed something as root (using sudo) that has messed up your configuration. If you can reproduce the bug in a fresh install (probably a virtual machine) then please detail the steps necessary, including any extra software you added. Please also check out the Linux Mint Forums, where there are many more people available to help out with diagnosing any problems you have. This is a standard response, so it may not be entirely appropriate.

It sounds like the window manager isn't being started on boot.

Hi Philip

Thanks for getting back to me. This is a pretty new install of Linux Mint 7
Xfce RC1. (I did not see a place to note the version of Linux Mint in Launch
Pad, did I miss something?) I think I installed it on Saturday 8/1 so
reinstalling is not a problem. I should have time this evening.

 Ukytreats

P.s This is my first time logging a bug so if I do anything incorrectly
please let me know the correct way to do it.

Steps to reproduce.
1. Click Menu | Settings | Xfce 4 Mint Config
2. Click Desktop (tab / Group)
3. Click Xfce 4 Mint Desktop
4. Click Compiz Fusion tab
5. Click Enable/Disable Compiz Fusion
6. After screen refresh click Apply
    Dialog closes.
Now I see a green title bar with a red x. (very nice)
7. Close open windows and restart.
8. Open mousepad. The application opens without a title bar, just menu bar.
9. If I follow steps 1 - 5 Compiz Fusion is disabled.

I was reading the Linux Mint forums and found a post that suggested adding compiz --replace to the Application startup list. This seems to have fixed the issue. Now when I reboot I get the nice green title bar. So I guess the bug is that in step 5 when I enabled Compiz Fusion it's not adding the line to the startup Application list?

Thanks Ukytreats.

Ukytreats: I installed XFCE CE (dev-18) in a VM, so although I still cannot reproduce it (vbox 2.2 doesn't support compiz), I do notice that right underneath the enable compiz button is one for enabling compiz on boot, which should add the equivalent of compiz --replace to the startup, hence solving your reboot issue. Assuming the original issue still exists, I have updated the bug report to more accurately describe the problem, and will invite the XFCE maintainer to examine it.

also, the XFCE RC1 bug thread is here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=143&t=29486 It makes more sense to use that for versions under development, since that's where the maintainer will usually look. The XFCE edition is nearing release though, so feel free to report any post-release bugs here.

The maintainer cannot confirm this bug, it's likely a configuration option, please post in the forum support section for more help if you need it.
