Mint logo shows up but system does not boot

Bug Description
Version :- linux mint cinnamon sonya (18.2)
What i did:-
I started my machine(Intel 7100u,Intel hd 620 GPU) after 2 days.
What happened:
it showed LM boot logo as usual and then it goes all black screen with white cursor blinking on top left corner. That's it. It does not boot in the OS just plain black screen and continuous white cursor blinking top left corner. The end.
I had to reinstall from scratch for it to be up and running again.
What i expected:
A normal system boot up in mint.
Occurance:-
Just once.
