Bug Description
I want to make a link to a file.
90% of time I don't want to make the link in the same directory as the source which has little interest (or maybe for libs1.2 / libs)
Right now I do it that way :
right click the directory I want to link
make link
copy link
go to the destination
paste
rename "link to X" to "X"
The right way (IMHO)
Copy(/references) the file/dir to be linked
Go to the destination directory
Make link (which would have the same name as the original)
[optional
Go to another directory
Link again
Go to another directory
Link again
...
Click another file
Click compare => the linked file and the selected file opened in meld
]
pro:
natural (vs destruction of link when pasting (???))
less steps
no need for extra text "Link to X" (except if pasting in the same dir)
multiple linking (or copying/pasting) is possible
can be used by other tools like meld (no more need for "compare later" entry in the contextual menu)
cons:
?
maybe some drawbacks when your workflow mixes file copying / file comparing ; as the file you compare would also be the file that was "copied" (or rather referenced)
Maybe this could be extended to manage a small clipboard of files.
Menus like paste/compare/copy to... would have a submenu with the last n entries that were selected
