Bug Description

Version & Edition:
Mint 18.2 Cinnamon 64-bit

Steps to reproduce:
Create a new virtual machine in Hyper-V (1st Gen, 2-4 cores, 4096MB memory static or dynamic, no net adapter, 127GB dynamic VHD). Boot from ISO. Double-click on "Install Linux Mint" icon on desktop, or select it from the application menu.

Expected Behavior:
Installation application starts, creates a GUI to request OOBE information.

Observed Behavior:
No window is created. Top seems to indicate that processes are started in response to the double-click (or enter), but all the tasks go to sleep and eventually disappear.

Does the issue occur consistently:
No. The issue was observed about 10 times (between VM restarts) before the application started correctly.

Additional Information:

When the application finally did work, no configuration changes had been made between restarts. I tried several different configurations of VM, but I did not try a desktop other than Cinnamon. I tried the OEM install once, and it stopped responding after asking for an "OEM group" name, which doesn't seem like a coincidence (I let the cursor spin for about 30 minutes before turning off the VM). I do get a notification that Cinnamon is running in software rendering mode, but I've encountered that in previous versions of Mint, where it didn't seem to interfere with installation.

Hi Lucas,

I saw this bug report and tried to reproduce it to see if this would indicate an issue with the Hyper-V LIS integration.

Using release 18.2 with the Cinnamon GUI I was actually able to do an install from ISO, all GUI OOBE steps were displayed fine and was able to configure them.

Please find the attached screenshot, there were no graphical artifacts in my case, and the installation finished successfully.
There might have been only a small hick-up at the end of the installation, when it ejected the ISO and prompted for [ENTER], which didn't work. But rebooting the VM allowed it to then successfully boot into the installed OS.

Can you please attach a screenshot with the issue you're seeing?
