Bug Description

Shift+PrintScreen is very buggy. It will never work on the first try.

There is also a year old forum thread with a bunch of suggestions.
But it should just work.

I'm on mint 18 fully updated.

This bug has been bothering me for years. Still not fix. I'm on Mint 18.1.

My workaround is to hold down the print key and watch the cursor. Eventually it will change to the "mark area" one, and it will work. It can take a few seconds. I removed the SHIFT part.

It only works for me if I hold the SHIFT key and press the PrintScreen key several times until I get the cross hair cursor to be able to take a screenshot of an area

Same as urupica I can get shit+printscreen to work eventually if I mash it a few times. alt+printscreen to capture a window does not work at all.

continues to be a bug in linux mint 18.3. A workaraound is to add this command to a keyboard shortcut (will ask for confirmation to reassign the shortcut)

sh -c 'sleep 0.1; gnome-screenshot -a'

CTRL SHIFT PRTSC also has the same problem, with the workaround being adding this custom shortcut command:

sh -c 'sleep 0.1; gnome-screenshot -a -c'

This is sad for the Linux Mint community that I cannot just use a program, and I have to spend 30 minutes doing debugging. This can limit the number of potential users of the OS, as less experienced users will prefer to use something else..

Also, if you are here for the same problem, this is how you can change the keyboard shortcut command.
