Bluetooth crashing

Bug Description
1) Linux Mint 18 'Sarah', Cinnamon, 64-bit. 4.4.0-21-generic #37-Ubuntu SMP Mon Apr 18 18:33:37 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux. Running on a Lenovo e550.
2) I powered on the machine, logged in, and started blueman-applet. I right-clicked on the blueman-applet icon and chose 'Devices...'.
3) blueman-applet reported that there were no adapters available. I had to restart my machine (hard reset) before I could use my bluetooth keyboard.
4) I expected there to be at least one Bluetooth adapter available.
5) The problem seems intermittent. A hard reset usually fixes the problem.
Looking at dmesg, I saw the following crash, which I think is the cause of the lack of reported adapters:
