cinnamon-settings-daemon g_variant_unref assertion failed

Every few seconds, another few entries appear in my ~/.xsession-errors file:

(cinnamon-settings-daemon:32632): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_variant_unref: assertion 'value->ref_count > 0' failed

It happens often enough that the drive will never sleep if set to a 10 second standby timeout (hdparm -S 2), and will barely spindown before powering back up if set to a 5 second standby timeout (hdparm -S 1)

Nothing seems to be failing, but this is indicative of sloppy code and is impacting the battery life.

Version: Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa
Hardware: MacBookPro9,2

Additional information:

Constantly moving the mouse or typing will prevent the error from showing, but after leaving the machine idle for 10-12 seconds the errors will appear. (I see it four times.) Once they have, hitting a key or moving the mouse will generate another set of errors. (Again, I see four.)
