Unity search is broken - Says I don't have pictures, files & folders, or applications

I installed Unity DE and some scopes using:
sudo apt-get install appmenu-qt appmenu-qt5 gir1.2-unity-5.0 gnome-settings-daemon indicator-appmenu indicator-session libboost-serialization1.54.0 libcapnp-0.4.0 libgsettings-qt1 libjsoncpp0 libmediascanner-2.0-0 libpgm-5.1-0 libprocess-cpp1 libunity-api0 libunity-scopes1 libzmq3 libzmqpp3 lightdm light-themes mediascanner2.0 ubuntu-desktop ubuntu-mono unity unity-greeter unity-gtk2-module unity-gtk3-module unity-lens-applications unity-lens-photos unity-plugin-scopes unity-scope-askubuntu unity-scope-mediascanner unity-scope-mediascanner2 unity-scope-scopes unity-scopes-runner

and sudo apt-get install --install-recommends indicator-applet-complete and then switched to lightdm.

When I restarted my computer and logged in, the unity search reports that I have nothing in the files & folders scope, nothing in applications, or in the pictures scope on my computer; only the music and videos scope works.

I had Linux Mint 17.2 XFCE 64bit installed.

The process was just as I described. After lots of time & updates, I reinstalled the scopes and it works fine.
