battery applet graphic not refreshing in LM17.2 cinnamon

Bug Description
1) Linux Mint 17.2 cinnamon
2) Thinkpad S-431 laptop
3) the battery applet graphic is not refreshing or does so randomly. For example, most of the time the graphic shows the battery as full even when it is 19%. Also, another weird thing is this - when charging, i get the charging symbol at even percentages (20, 22, ...) and on odd percentages the graphic changes to a full battery.
5) this has occurred all the time since I upgraded to 17.2 yesterday. i didn't have this problem in 17.1
