gphoto2 needs update

The current package of gphoto2 , version 2.5.2, is two years old It needs to be updated to the current version, 2.5.7. Specifically, the command gphoto2 --capture-preview does not work in the old version provided, but does work in the new version.

Both gphoto2 and libgphoto2 should be updated.

Linux mint 16 Petra, Cinnamon 32 bit.

Is this still an issue we are currently using mint 18.1?

I downloaded the source, compiled and installed code for gphoto2. That
solved the immediate problems with gphoto2. I do not know if the current
package supplied with mint is now up to date.

Is there some way to check the current package version of gphoto2 and
libgphoto2 in mint 18.1 without installing it?
