Bug Description

Note: I previously filed this bug on Firefox and got a reply that the problem appears because of a wrong google.xml file when adding Google search engine. So this should be looked at by the Mint team.
(see http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1117433)

Also I found this old bug which might be related http://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/1086642

SW Version: Linux Mint 17 32-bit with Firefox 34

Steps to reproduce:

I added Google to the list of search engines, then set it as default.

Actual results:

When typing in the search box search suggestions do not appear (even though the corresponding checkbox is selected). If typing e.g. "circuit" nothing appears (unless I previously searched something including this word).

Please note: Suggestions based on history do appear, but not those I never searched before.

Expected results:

When typing "circuit" in the search box a list of suggestions should appear (including "circuit simulator", "circuit breaker", ...)

Workaround:

I solved the problem by following this http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2699339, i.e. I downloaded a fresh copy of firefox and copied (replaced) "google.xml" to my profile "searchplugins" folder.
