Cheese/guvcview/VLC will not operate built-in webcam

I installed LinuxMint17 in August/2014. Have not been able to get Cheese/guvcview/VLC to operate HP VGA built-in webcam. Have been over many "posts" in many forums, still webcam fails. Webcam worked w/12.04(?). Here is my laptop's info and linux distro info: Laptop: HP2000-210 64-bit O.S.: LinuxMint17.1 Cinnamon 64-bit Cinnamon Version: 2.4.5 Linux Kernel: 3.13.0-24-generic Processor: Intel Pentium CPU P6200@ 2.13 GHz x2 Memory: 2.8 Gb Hdd: 73.8 Gb Graphics Card: Intel Corp. Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller. Should you need further info, please contact me!

   Why, exactly, are you commenting and not helping or offering any sound advice? I don't know why the bug report was assigned to 'elementaryos", do you?

   Thankx for you help. Wonder why I didn't see that post for I had "googled" and looked over so many posts pertaing to exactly that?
Anyway, this SHUOLD be a step forward.
