Bug Description

I'm suffering random hangs while using Mint 17 Cinnamon x64. The whole graphical system stops responding but the mouse cursor still moves around. I don't have to reboot to fix because just restarting the window system solves the problem (Ctrl + Alt + Backspace).

Laptop is an Asus G56JR.

The freeze can be usually worked around by hitting Ctrl+Alt+F1 and logging in: when the dmesg error is echoed in the tty, go back to the X server, and it works again (until the problem reoccurs).

Experiencing the exact same issue with the same dmesg error on two different computers (1 laptop and 1 desktop) using intel graphics. I added an ATI graphics card to my desktop computer and the freezing stopped ~ so it only affects Intel graphics. Yestereday I installed Mint 17 on a Dell Latitude laptop with Intel HD graphics and experienced the screen freeze on this too.
This bug wasn't present in Linux Mint 13 but I've experienced this bug since Mint 14 and beyond and would just go back to my trusty Mint 13 install and wait for another LTS release ~ unfortunately Mint 13 it is no longer supported.

Hello all,

I have the same issue here. Intel Graphics ( VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 06)), Kernel 3.13.0-24-generic, Linux Mint 17 x64.

I have to kill the x server and restart it.
