Bug Description

M 17 cinnamon wireless connection

I have a replaced my old wifi router modem with a new Netgear brand. I have a wired net work connection working in the Netgear unit. With WiFi, I can not get passed the GUI repeating request for password authorization.
This request repeats over and over again.
I believe I have filled out all the GUI information need to establish a WiFi connection. My wireless is set to "on" via the computer. I have loaded the SSID information and am using the Netgear Net key (password) printed on the back of the router modem unit.
Either this is a bug or more likely I have not provided enough information in the fill out boxes within the Network Connections?

Background for initial (where I am now) information typed in :
WiFi
In Network Connections clicked "add button" Auto NETGEAR20 (Last Used) . Recieved Editing Wi-Fi connection 1.
Filled in SSID=NETGEAR20
mode= "infrastructure" (arrow for more slections) left as defalt= "infrastructure".
BSSID: entered correct ID (NETGEAR20)
Device MAC address= have this info but in the form of asdf and not as:df: etc. (not typed in). I recieved an automatic input different from the as:df: etc. .
Cloned MAC address= ?
MTU=automatic as default?

Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Bob

Questions and Answers:
4) What you expected to happen instead.
4a) I expected to be connected to the wireless portion of my Netgear unit while plugged into to my wired Netgear unit.
I thought the command would over ride my wired connection. Both were set to on in icon query. I tried shutting off wired and no help in connection to wireless. Note: I saw a few wireless problems similar running a LM forum with no solution.

5) If the problem happened once, sometimes, or always.
5a) always. slight variations depending on what information I add to Network Connections. Sometimes I get caught in a loop with the authorization button greyed out.

Please feel free to contact for anything you need. I am a newbie (4-5 months) in Linux.
Thanks,
Bob

Body:
Please mark Bug report #1338187 as invalid.
1. I went to Netgear intially and set up the wired connection through Windows.
2. Netgear support does not support Linux Os.
3. Was told that the automated Genie program could run in Windows.
4. I successfully established the wired connection in Mint 17.
5. I having been trying for the last week and a half to connect the wireless connection to Mint 17.
6. I then followed the tutorial in http://www.wikihow.com/Set-up-a-Wireless-Network-in-Linux-Via-the-Command-Line and was lead to entering the:
"Go to your browser and type in the address: "192.168.0.1"
7. This action resulted in sending me to the Netgear Genie interface. What do I got to loose? So I filled in some information by following: http://www.upubuntu.com/2012/09/fix-ubuntu-keeps-forgetting-my-wireless.html .
8. I then shut down the computer from last night and this morning stated to work on the problem again. I thought I should check out what I did last night and sure enough, I have a wireless connection.
9. This Netgear Genie does allow Linux to talk to its program. The Genie if used as described from above (i.e. connected by "192.168.0.1" is not dependent on the step by step interface as dictated via Windows. It can be used independently by Linux Mint 17.
10. Sorry for the bug post. Hope this helps someone else.
11. no wlan0 in ifconfig in mint 17. Ref: 6Detecting your wireless adapter: Your wireless adapter should be detected automatically by your distribution.
Type ifconfig into the terminal to determine whether it's been detected.
12. Email sent to change status.
