Media keys and multiple players

Bug Description
Hi,
1) I use Rhythmbox 3.0.2 and VLC 2.1.4 on Linux-Mint-17 64 Bit with Mate 1.8.0 (all are the normal Mint-17 versions), on a laptop (Clevo W670).
The laptop have multimedia-keys for controling media-players.
2) TO REPRODUCE :
- open Rhythmbox and play a song (media keys now control Rhythbox well)
- open VLC and play a media (media keys now control VLC well)
- quit VLC : media keys no longer work in Rhythmbox (here is the bug)
3) WHAT HAPPENED : when I open Rhythmbox and VLC, in that order, and then VLC is closed, I am no longer able to play/pause Rhythmbox with my media-keys. (bug is also present when I open VLC and then Rhythmbox, and if I close Rhythmbox first).
4) EXPECTED : the media keys should always control the latest media-player that is open (open two players, close one, the remaining one need to be controlable by media keys)
5) The bug happens everytime.
