Bug Description

I am able to resume from suspend except for wireless network not starting but resuming from hibernate, the system freezes just after grub has started the resume. When I tried to resume earlier the process missed the resume image on the swap partition and booted straight to login screen. I fixed this with:
https://sites.google.com/site/lightrush/random-1/howtofixhibernateafterresizingswappartitiononubuntu
I had not changed swap partition size after installing Mint 17 but had the same symptoms shown in this.
Mint was installed by reformatting the "/" partition and reusing the /home partition without format from Mint 16.

1. Choose hibernate from Quit in the main menu.
2. Resume from the power button
Result: after grub hands the boot process over to the resume image a console screen comes up with a "call trace" then the screen and keyboard freezes.
Expect: the resume process to continue without a console screen right to the desktop.
It is always reproducible.

I believe I had the very same issue on a Vaio Pro, but I (seem to have) solved it by doing the following:

1. Get UUID of swap partition: sudo blkid
2. Edit grub as so: sudo nano /etc/default/grub
3. Modify the default grub cmdline_linux entry like this: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="resume=/dev/disk/by-uuid/your_swap_uuid"
4. sudo update-grub
5. Restart and try hibernating.

Not sure if this is a general fix for it, but as I say it seems to have worked for me and I was having precisely the issue you describe. Best of luck.

For me the bug seems to be fixed with latest update to Rebecca Mint 17.1. It was at least partially fixed with linux-image-3.13.0-44-generic but sometimes would only resume to blank screen then suddenly reboot by itself to the normal login screen. I do have slightly more swap partition than the RAM memory 16 GB, so I don't think that was the problem. When I upgraded to 3.16.0-31-generic the bug seems fixed completely.
