Music stops after a few seconds (rhythmbox, banshee, totem...)

I just upgraded to linux mint 16 (with cinnamon) from a previous version. This bug was not present before.

When I play a song using rhythmbox (but it also happens in other music players, like banshee or totem), some songs stop playing after a few seconds, although the progress bar keeps running. Usually the audio doesn't come back until the start of the next song, but not always. The bug is not consistent, it only happens once every 3 or 4 songs, but sometimes it lasts for extended periods of time, even if you skip songs.

As it affects most music players (VLC doesn't seem to be affected), I think it must have something to do with pulseaudio. I tried reinstalling pulseaudio and alsa with no success.

I hope there is a solution, because right now I'm unable to listen to music.
