Bug Description

I have seen this several times. Screen grab of System Monitor attached.

Although I closed the window containing Nemo, it remains active, and consumes large amounts of memory - 1.1 gigs in this instance.

1) The version and edition of Linux Mint you are using
Release: Linux Mint 15 "olivia"
Edition: Cinnamon 64-bit

2) What you did for the problem to happen, and how to reproduce it.

Opened Nemo. May or may not have copied files, possibly from external drive via USB
Once operation was done, closed Nemo Window.

3) What happened.
PC becomes progressively slower.
Opened System Monitor and find Nemo still listed as an active process; consuming large amount of RAM and CPU (1.1 gig and 20%).

4) What you expected to happen instead.
Nemo not listed as a process.

5) If the problem happened once, sometimes, or always.
Sometimes for sure. Need to check further.

Follow up: Used Nemo yesterday, but did not copy to or from external drives or USB. Closed it normally.

This morning it is still listed in the System Monitor, using 100+ megs of RAM.

Screen grab attached.

There is a new version of Nemo - 1.8.4 - available in Romeo for Mint 15, that is intended to address a certain memory leak issue. Give it a try if you would (log out/back in after installing it to ensure the new version is running)

Hi Mike - that's good news. This is where my command line mojo is a tad weak. Totally used to Synaptic for everything.

Can you tell me how to install this update?

Thanks

Barry

News: upgrading to the newer version of Nemo solved the memory leak problem, but does not resolve Nemo refusing to release resources when closed.

From the other bug that I linked to here:

@Michael Webster The problem indeed appears resolved. Thanks for the help. The memory leak appears to be fixed.

However, when I close Nemo (File | Close) or CTRL-W, the Nemo process continues to run in System Monitor.

However, without the runaway RAM that's not a big deal.

Nemo manages the desktop icons, so it will always run in the background, even if you have no actual Nemo windows open - this is normal.

Glad to hear the memory issue is fixed.
