Bug Description

The Places menu items launch nautilus file browser and not nemo file browser as would be expected in Cinnamon 1.6.7 for Linux mint 13 Maya 64bit. Other file browser launches such as Files on the Accessories menu launch nemo as expected. All file browser launches should be the same unless a specific entry is made through menu edits to launch a particular file browser.

Seems like this problem causes desktop icons not showing s because of this conflict between Nemo and Nautilus.

I think it is related to a problem discussed in the forums:

I had not noticed the problem with desktop icons being missing as I run with no icons on the desktop. I applied the change to the /usr/share/applications/defaults.list file specified in the forum topic http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=208&t=117974&p=654917#p654917 to change the line:

inode/directory=nautilus.desktop

to read

inode/directory=nemo.desktop

and the places menu items now use the nemo file manager instead of nautilus and desktop icons are displayed if requested.

Further to comment #3 above it appears that the /usr/share/applications/defaults.list file is created from the /etc/gnome/defaults.list file at login. Thus any changes to the /usr/share/applications/defaults.list file only last for that login. To make the change permament the changes in note 3 above must be made to the /etc/gnome/defaults.list file and a logout and login performed.

Further to note #4 above. Having made the change in note #4 the /usr/share/applications/defaults.list file still gets reset to nautilus after a reboot. I searched for any other occurrences of the defaults.list file and found one in /usr/share/gnome/applications and one in /usr/share/linuxmint/common/artwork/mime. I changed both of these and the /usr/share/applications/defaults.list file remained changed to nemo after a reboot and selection of items in the places menu launched nemo and not nautilus.
