Bug Description
I'm running LMDE with Mate following latest repo (not fully updated, I confess) and did some updates (in a not much technical order). Cups got updated from 1.5.2-5 to 1.5.3-1 (current version in the repo).
After a few days, I tried to print and got an error saying no print system was available. I tried to start it manually with sudo /usr/sbin/cupsd, but it returned the following error:
/usr/sbin/cupsd: symbol lookup error: /usr/sbin/cupsd: undefined symbol: _ppdCacheGetFin
Until the update, cups started normally at boot and I had no printer server problems at all.
After searching a bit, I found the bug in cups:
http://
The bug is closed, with the info cups was fixed in version 1.5.3-4.
Since this version is not available in the repo (even Debian itself only has it in "experimental"), I downloaded version 1.5.4 from cups page and installed from source. It ended with no hiccups, and solved the problem: now cupsd starts without error and cups starts automatically at boot.
(In fact, the current cups version in their page is 1.6.something, but I didn't want to be far from what's in LMDE and Debian)
So I request that a newer version of cups, at least 1.5.3-4, is included in the repos. And yes, I'm willing to help with tests and reports if needed.
My inxi -Sr output:
