Linux Mint 13 KDE: Invalid APT software sources and missing packages

A fresh install of Linux Mint 13 (Maya) KDE 64-bit includes the following sources.list:

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maya-updates main restricted universe multiverse

deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ maya partner

However, since Ubuntu doesn't have a "maya" distribution, these entries are no good. :)
The result is lots of errors when running "apt-get update" or using the KDE Update Manager (see below).

This might explain why basic packages like "gedit", "zsh", "curl" are all missing.

Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Since after the installation sources are set to invalid locations, the sources presented in live filesystem of the installation medium are corrct. So, as a workaround, after installation one could copy them into the installed system.
