Bug Description

At 1st this was the bug I reported: Installation FX 5200 Video Card. That was NOT the problem. To keep installer from crashing you must remove ubiquity slideshow. In Terminal type: sudo apt-get remove ubiquity-slideshow-mint
OK, in my case I first had start in Compatability mode. Then lower screen resolution to 1024x768. After install I had to start in compatability mode again. THEN edit Grub.cfg. this is the line I had to edit:
linux /boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-23-generic root=UUID=bb0ee5b7-9ec5-406a-b840-2e3f9dcec910 ro nomodeset quiet splash $vt_handoff

I had to add "nomodeset" right after it says "ro" then it will boot normally.
Now if I install ANY Nvidia Drivers, I am not able to boot. Tried some from Nvidia's site, same problem.
With the info I reported about Bug: FX 5200 Video Card, and this new info, I hope that a lot of problems can be fixed before the next release. (Mint 14)
Good Luck Team,
And I still Love Mint !

Why is this still unassigned? I read about the bug on another site. That is where I got the info. Many people are having the same problems. I sure hope that it is addressed in the next version of Mint. Hey, The Mint Team does a GREAT JOB. I just wonder how things work sometimes with bug priorities. Keep up the GREAT WORK Team.

This also affects Mint 14 when you have an FX5200 card.

Thanks a million, Russel. I managed to revive an old GeForce FX 5700LE by using Linux-Mint-13 XFCE and removing ubiquity slideshow - as per your Bug description.

I can confirm this behaviour with with Maya; both with MATE and XFCE environments.

In the process of rebuilding a series of Panasonic CF-28 notebooks -- in each case, the Live environment would boot and function without error, but the install process would close without any information.

Went through several install attempts with multiple iso's, even attempted to pass boot over to USB -- they all ended the same: the installer closing at the slide show.

Had the idea to hold back information while the files copied and it worked so I decided to check if this problem had appeared before -- found this thread. Uninstalled the slideshow, continued the installation, and it completed without error.

My thanks to you Russell.

This is still a problem in Mint 17.1. AMD XP3000+ 32 bit and ATI 9600 graphics.
