Bug Description

By default, when the lid is closed the laptop goes in suspend mode, and that works fine. However, when I connect a second monitor to the VGA port the laptop is no longer suspended. Actually, the external monitor is switched off, and when the lid is open again, the monitor will be on again. And the strangest thing is that the windows that were placed in the laptop screen will appear in the external monitor after the lid is open! But in all this process the laptop didn't actually suspend.

The /var/log/pm-suspend.log file doesn't show anything. I attach the messages in /var/log/Xorg.0.log that appear between lid closing and opening again.
The video card is Sandybridge Mobile.

I am running Linux Mint 13, Cinnamon 64-bit edition.

I'm having the same trouble on a Lenovo Thinkpad T-61 connected to a Samsung TV. As soon as I close the lid, the external screen goes black, when you open it back up, the windows from the laptop screen appear on the external screen. I am on Linux Mint 14.1.

It looks like some years later this bug is still present in LMDE 2. The interesting thing is that if one presses the power button, the dialog will show the suspend option and that one works fine. I guess it shouldn't be so difficult to get the same behavior when the lid gets closed..
