I can confirm this bug is also present in Linux Mint 14 32-bit Cinnamon.

$TERM make reference to xterm but xterm is not installed.

I verified on Ubuntu 12.10 and xterm is installed there so it is definitively a LM bug.

This affected me when trying to backup a theme on cairo-dock. I installed xterm and the issue is resolved.

Isn't it surprising, after 4 months and one release, that, this bug isn't CONFIRMED.
We're probably be told again that the counter shows that the missing xterm command affects only two persons.

Found this bug in MINT 17 too :

$ which xterm
/usr/bin/xterm
$ env|grep term
TERM=xterm
COLORTERM=mate-terminal

And when I start mc in the MATE menu, it says that xterm is missing. I need to manually install xterm :
sudo apt-get install xterm
