Bug Description

my current system: LinuxMint 13, 64-bit

I installed xfig (among many other programs). Now I want to use xfig to modify some of my drawings created in xfig on ubuntu 11.04.

After loading my drawing I can see letters displayed in very small and thin fonts (quite odd for given purpose) and xfig writes out error messages:

Can't find -*-times-medium-i-normal--27-*-*-*-*-*-ISO8859-*, using 6x13
Can't find -*-times-medium-r-normal--27-*-*-*-*-*-ISO8859-*, using 6x13
Can't find -*-symbol-medium-r-normal--27-*-*-*-*-*-*-*, using 6x13
Can't find -*-times-medium-i-normal--22-*-*-*-*-*-ISO8859-*, using 6x13
Can't find -*-times-medium-r-normal--22-*-*-*-*-*-ISO8859-*, using 6x13

These and similar fonts should certainly be considered as necessary prerequisities for usable xfig operation. At now in Mint 13, xfig is almost unsuable.

Hello, I had this problem too, and I guess they didn't install the ghost script fonts by default with the Mint 13 installation.

Anyway, there is an easy workaround that worked for me: install the gsfonts-x11 package via software manager, and restart your system.

I hope that helps,
Luiz

I experienced the same problem on xubuntu 12.04. Installing the package
gsfonts-x11 alone does not seem to fix the problem, even if it is followed
by a restart. After I installed this package I also had to do a reinstall
of xfig, transfig, and xfig-libs followed by a restart of the system to
make things work.
