Bug Description

Release: 13 (maya)
Edition: Cinnamon 64-bit

The HP spectre has a "beats" Audio system with a subwoofer that does not function in maya. The two front speakers function fine.
There is a red LED with the beats symbol on the lower right hand side and this does not light up (not a big deal for me).

# lspci | grep -i audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 05)

I have tried the various guides on the net and appended to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf the following

options snd-hda-intel model=auto

This does enable the red LED but completely disables the working front audio

I have run alsa-info-script and the output is here;

Also affects me too.

But there's a workaround:

Add "options snd-hda-intel model=ref" at the end of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

Then it should work

Simon,

Thanks for the info! I have already tried that as well. This does turn on the glowing red "beats" light on the lower right hand side, but no sound output.

Robert,

Nothing works, neither the Cinnamon sounds manager or any other media players.
I've put the screenshots of the manager after i added snd-hda-intel model=ref

Sorry I should add the pulseaudio tests I performed were simply using the physical volume control and testing the output via the gnome-control-center => sound mixer

I managed to get the subwoofer to work with snd-hda-intel model=hp-zephyr in alsa-base.conf, using the latest code from the alsa-driver.new git repo (git://git.alsa-project.org/alsa-driver.new.git). The bass was rather silent in the beginning but I fixed that using alsaequal.
