Keyboard shortcuts doesn't work

My laptop doesn't have multimedia keys, so I configure the global keyboard shortcuts to emulate them.
It works fine on Katya (GNOME 32bit), but on Maya (MATE version) Exaile and Totem doesn't recognize it, however, assigning apps to key combinations works fine.

Dell Mini 1011, Linux Mint 13 Maya MATE 32bit.

Same thing here. vex recognizes the codes, so they are being sent, but Totem doesn't respond to them. Please treat it with urgency, it irritates not to be able to stop music. I'd gladly help.

For me the shortcuts work but take 30 seconds to trigger. This is happening for my screen locker and taking of screenshots using the PrtScr button. i.e. it is independent of any downstream application.
