MINT12 fills VAR too much!

My /var directory i made 10GB big, what is usually enough, but somehow i get everytime the message that it is full. Then when i went there, in /var/log the ufw.log and kernel.log are very big of course, but the problem is, it didn't pack for a long time the old and 2-3GB big ufw.log.1 and the kernel.log.1 which i always have to do manually, because 2X2.7GB of the original ufw and kernel logs and the same 2 times for useless copys are a bit too much, so it would be nice i you make, that there is no old copy of kernel and ufw that is not compressed! (If i really want to see them as advanced user, i will unpack them.)
