Bug Description

I tried to reinstall the linux-image-3.0.0-12-generic package, because my PC won't boot on this kernel. Choosing the rescue mode gives a kernel panic and a frozen shell.

This might be a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/859889, but since it's been marked as "fixed released", I thought it'd be best to create a new one.

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all. Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request further testing. This is such a request.

We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still exists or not.

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Fix Released.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.

Hello,

I can't find any newer version of the development kernel either through the update manager, synaptic or packages.ubuntu.com.

Problem still persists after kernel update.

Tried sudo dpkg --configure -a, it gives exactly the same error as with when installing updates through the update manager, or even installing new packages:

The problem seems to be that there is no /boot/initrd.img-3.0.0-12-generic file present.

I have the same problem after an upgrade from Natty yesterday (10 oct).
So i can start oneiric only with the kernel 2.6.38.

I don't have any /boot/initrd.img-3.0.0-12-generic file present too.

Closing this bug with Won't fix as this kernel / release is no longer supported.
Please feel free to open a new bug report if you're still experiencing this on a newer release (Bionic 18.04.3 / Disco 19.04)
Thanks!
