Bug Description

This is the reopening of bug #374459 for Natty.
There is a button next to the touchpad on these laptops, if they're pressed it's supposed to turn on and off the touchpad. This is not working on Natty.
Further info in the previously mentioned bug.

Same for Acer Aspire 5738G. Please do not let this bug report grow old as the old one (bug #374459). This way this bug will never be fixed.

bmhm: I was trying to prevent the previous bug from growing old, I was updating it for each release, but no use. This is a bit upsetting, but I opened a new bug anyway..

Brad: the original report had 25 affected users and had all the upstream bugs linked to it. Now that I opened a new bug for the same problem I'm the only one that's affected. (This is a bug in launchapd, bug #343110)
My question is: was it really necessary to close the original bug? Is the new bug more helpful to the developers? Is it more likely that they will notice that this bug exists?
I agree that this is a good way to close abandoned bug reports, but in this case I was testing every new release of Ubuntu and I was updating the report every time!

@Adam,
No need to ask such questions here...
The people that will work on this bug eventually, do not see this as a place to post such comments...
They see it more like a tech only place with proper bug details....
It's not that it differs to them so much...
Anyway...

Please let all people that are affected by this bug(its a copy of the old one that you were subscribed to) come here and just hit the "it affects me" link above... so we can hope this bug will draw at least attention...
For fixing it.. i doubt...

Adam Niedling, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please provide the information following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting ?

As well, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested and remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the text:
needs-upstream-testing

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why specifically you were unable to test it and add the following tags:
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.

This is still an issue here with quantal on acer aspire 4810TZ. I am afraid to mess things up with apport-collect, because I am not the original reporter of this bug and have not exactly the same hardware.

Closing this bug with Won't fix as this kernel / release is no longer supported.
Please feel free to open a new bug report if you're still experiencing this on a newer release (Bionic 18.04.3 / Disco 19.04)
Thanks!
