Bug Description

Upgrading to the latest kernel on Lucid (2.6.32-26.48) yields on kernel panic upon reboot with:

VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)

This bug has been reported by other users on the forums, see http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1625986 for example.
This is a major issue since this version of the kernel fixes a major security vulnerability.

When I upgraded to Maverick 10.10 something went wrong with the installation and the grub failed to boot, I think that's the same problem

Hi,

This may be a grub1 problem; we were running this kernel version under grub1 (because that's what vmbuilder does) and KVM and had two machines fail to boot. Editing the "root" kernel parameter from the UUID to /dev/sda1 and booting allowed us to boot correctly. Upgrading to the latest kernel seemed to fix this regression.

In our case, this is not a grub1 issue, we use grub2.

I have seems kernel panic on 2.6.32-26 и 2.6.32-27:
Kernel Panic - not syncing: init not found. try passing init= option to the kernel

But 2.6.32-25 work fine.
If need I can attach any information.

Hi there - i can confirm this bug.

On two occasions I have had issues with the kernel and grub after an update. On both occasions it failed to mount root fs and also had many tty errors. For the record, the kernels in question for me were 2.6.32-26 as well as the 2.6.35-22 kernel.

All initrd images broken after another update. If I load with initrd for my kernel from other Ubuntu Server -- it's work.

After "update-initramfs -k all" -- all initrd's are broken.
