Bug Description

Binary package hint: dvd+rw-tools

When I insert a blank CD-R (1X-52X) 700Mb, 80 min, Ubuntu reports that there is no space left on the disc???

After installing Ubuntu 10.4 some weeks ago I was able to burn discs with brasero. Today brasero reports that there is no
space left on a blanc disc.

The following messages are present in the log:

and so on ...

Is it possible that the previous kernel and hardware-patches had not this problem, as last weekend a lot of files were
upgraded (kernel, firmware, ....)

I booted from the Ubuntu10.04-cd in order to check whether the cd-drive was in error or not. I could boot without any problems from the cd and no error-messages were logged. So the conclusion is that one of the recent updates has a regression in it.

I installed qpxtool. qpxtool can determine the properties of the blank disc! (See picture attached). A free size of 702 MB
(359848 sectors). For reference I attached also the properties of my drive.

I tested also GNU libcdio. This package can't read the blank disc! (Is be maybe obvious as it properly uses the installed
dvd-rw-tools?). Please find the results underneath :
