I'll add my voice to this. I'm the original poster of the thread linked by #2 above. You can see the relevant dmesg info in comment #17: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=8355219&postcount=17

I also like to point out I have made a thread on this issue which I had no replies on yet .... http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1305554

I have a Thinkpad T30 and a Dell 960 that both have this issue (or one manifesting in the same way). So far I see only "me too"s. Aside from the repeating error, what information can we provide to help troubleshoot this?

I have the same problem - log flooded with
[21047.836905] VFS: busy inodes on changed media or resized disk sr0
[21047.847688] VFS: busy inodes on changed media or resized disk sr0
[21048.881934] VFS: busy inodes on changed media or resized disk sr0
and no recognition of media inserted in the drive. Eject works, so some kind of connection does exist.

The DVD drive has not worked on the previous Ubuntu (8.04) either but I works under M$ Windows.

If somebody needs more information, just ask. Otherwise just count this as one more vote.

still no fix available?

PS: I have a Dell Optiplex 980 with two DVD drives. Affects both drives; sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

Can you run "apport-collect 464134" in a terminal to give us more information about this bug? Thanks!
