Bug Description

Ubuntu 12.04, 13.04 and 13.10 (in addition to Fedora 19 and 20) will not boot in UEFI mode on an ASUS Q500A laptop. The only way to boot to the disc is CSM (legacy) mode for the laptop. (Related: ).

I was able to correct the problem, but I'm not sure what the problem was. There were two potential problems. First, the case sensitivity of EFI/BOOT/bootx64.efi. Second, the bootable UEFI DVD may have been built incorrectly.

I'm fairly certain it was the first issue since I used Fedora's notes to build the bootable UEFI DVD (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Pjones/BootableCDsForBIOSAndUEFI). But there could be an issue in the invocation of mkisofs.

The attached script changes the case of bootx64.efi and then rebuilds the bootable UEFI DVD according to the Fedora wiki page. The changes tested positive on Fedora 19, Ubuntu 12 and Ubuntu 13 (previously, none would boot in UEFI mode).

This fix likely has limited scope since I did not come across others reporting a "no UEFI boot" issue. Its likely limited to ASUS laptops, Aptio UEFI around version 205, etc.

Sorry I could not classify this bug. I found "ubuntu-livecd-image" on page three of the search results. But the reporting backend refused to accept it. The error message:

"ubuntu-livecd-image" does not exist in Ubuntu. Please choose a
different package. If you're unsure, please select "I don't know"

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1261465/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.
