Now I get a picture. However it took some 8 minutes to get to the desktop. Screen has some artifacts, some pixels flicker in a line teared through screen, as if mouse moved freely around the screen. System is very sluggish, practically unusable.

Serial console spams some lines like:
omap-abe-dai omap-abe-dai : omap_abe_dai_hw_*: MultiMedia1
SDP4430 Media: asoc: : SDP4430 Media no valid playback route from source to sink

top command shows that pulseaudio is utilizing 99% CPU.

After killing pulseaudio, serial console spam gets silent for a moment, until new pulseaudio process starts automatically.

Should we have another bug for pulseaudio?

Uninstalling pulseaudio also rips away some other useful stuff, however it works for performance point of view. Could it be that previously HDMI audio was supported, but now when using DVI-D, which doesn't support audio, it's not routed correctly?

The pulseaudio issue should be fixed with the lt-panda (and lt-panda-x11-base-natty) hwpacks. Can you post which kernel you're running at your system?

'uname -a' and 'dmesg' can help us finding if you're running the right kernel.

$ uname -a
Linux linaro-desktop 3.0.0-1403-linaro-lt-omap #6~ppa~natty~Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT Tue Sep 27 00:53:53 UTC 2011 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux

dmesg also shows 3.0.0.-1403-linaro-lt-omap

This doesn't solve the pulseaudio problem, but if you want to disable pulseaudio without actually removing the package the following has worked for me:

Edit /etc/pulse/client.conf:

Change this line
; autospawn = yes
to
autospawn = no

Then reboot.

Ok, just saw that happened, the new alsa-lib package build was blocked
at the PPA. I just pushed a new version that should fix this issue and
will respin the image once it's done.

With latest panda-lt-kernel both DVI and sound should work as expected.

rsalveti,
Newbie here. Can you give me a link to get that panda-lt-kernel and the way to flash it to SD for pandaboard ES?
Thank you.
