Bug Description

I am using pandaboard rev A2/A3 and linaro android tracking-panda 11.10 build 5.

I have HDMI audio issue(no audio at all over HDMI) which occurs on certain TV models only. So far I have seen this issue on Sony Bravia KLV26V300A and Samsung LA22A450C1. The HDMI video seems to be fine though on both these TVs with expected resolutions.

In the linaro kernel code, I have forced the resolution in the code(kernel/drivers/video/omap2/dss/hdmi.c) to select the best HDMI resolution available for the TV i.e. either 1080p or 720p based on the edid received from the TV. For e.g. it is ensured that hdmi.code gets set as 16(for 1080p) or 4(for 720p) or as needed, based on the edid received from the TV. This has worked for me on many TVs(different makes like Samsung, Toshiba etc.) and I get correct HDMI resolution, video as well as audio over HDMI for them.

But the same does not work for certain TV models like Sony Bravia KLV26V300A and Samsung LA22A450C1.

I have seen another bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/linaro-ubuntu/+bug/849625 for Sony Bravia KLV-32J400A, but I could not conclude from that discussion if it is similar issue. So filing another bug.

Attaching dmesg log with OMAP2_DSS_DEBUG_SUPPORT and FB_OMAP2_DEBUG_SUPPORT enabled.

I would appreciate any help on understanding what could be the possible issue here or any ideas on what could be possible solutions/workarounds to fix this issue.
