vexpress-a9: Loading gator module fails with "Unknown symbol _GLOBAL_OFFSET_TABLE_"

During device boot I get the following error message:

gator: Unknown symbol _GLOBAL_OFFSET_TABLE_ (err 0)

and the gotor module isn't loaded. Trying "insmod /system/modules/gator.ko" after boot gives the same error.

Could this be down to toolchain issues? E.g. does gator need to be forced to use a particular toolchain in a similar way as we do for kernel?

Toolchain used was the 11.12 candidate:

Can be fixed by building gator with -fno-pic, see attached patch

Tixy: I wonder if this affects other Landing Teams. Do you think it is related to moving to ICS?

It does and yes. But this bug is now fixed, so don't worry about it ;-)
