Bug Description

It is suspected that on these latest binary images for the PandaBoard that the TI drivers are not being copied to the SDcard prior to the image being captured.

It is assumed that the process of image generation and capture has been automated.

To create the initial image and properly copy the TI drivers the following is executed on a Ubuntu host machine

     $ wget http://people.linaro.org/~vishalbhoj/install-binaries-4.0.4.sh
     $ chmod a+x install-binaries-4.0.4.sh
     $ ./install-binaries-4.0.4.sh

This process will work but there is an easily made mistake when executing this process. When extracting the TI files the script will display a large license agreement. It is shown line by line and advanced by pressing the Enter key. A user is tempted to hold down the Enter key to quickly scroll through the entire license agreement, however after the last line is displayed the user is prompted to type "I ACCEPT" to agree and continue. If the Enter key is held down this line is returned without the proper "I ACCEPT" string and the scipt will proceed forward displaying text in the console, but not actually extracting and copying the files to the proper location on the SDcard.

I suspect that if there is an automated pandaboard image generation process it is accidently pressing return and not accepting this license file.

I experimented and took one of the linaro posted images and reperformed the TI driver install process, but was very careful to type "I ACCEPT" at the proper point and this fixed the no video issue.

We cannot distribute these binaries :

The automated builds do not include this step. The end user has to run this step after installation.

We need to make this clear by documentation on the webpage where you offer this binary for download.

Linaro represents this a a panda bootable binary. And on earlier versions it was complete with video.

In the current state it impossible to use Windows to create the SD card from this binary to boot the pandaboard with video. The TI driver transfer state can not be done with windows.

With no warning that the binary image is in-fact not complete, many engineers will attempt to do this from windows and have problems with it.

You may be correct that there are no changes needed for the software, but at a minimum pleas add a sentence explaining the situation on the webpage. This information is not available on the internet.

Hi Ben,

the information is _supposed to be_ provided on the binary image installation available with the artifacts.

See "install graphics libraries" section:
https://releases.linaro.org/13.03/android/panda/
https://android-build.linaro.org/builds/~linaro-android-member-ti/panda-linaro-13.03-release/

Though, you're correct, there's a bug on instructions provided on the daily image:
http://snapshots.linaro.org/android/~linaro-android-member-ti/panda-linaro/lastSuccessful
https://android-build.linaro.org/builds/~linaro-android-member-ti/panda-linaro/

Hence, it's seems to be a regression on the install instructions publishing.
