Bug Description

I am not sure whether I had a new update or not in past two days for Lightread, from past two days it stopped sync, the sync icon keeps running(animated) but wont sync any items. When Lightread is running, I see lots of harddrive activity(confirmed this with iotop).

I tried to logout and login back, it synced one time, then stopped synching.

I do not know where to look for logs, I can provide you if you provide me such details.

Happened to me too. It is JavaScript error happening because your database has become too big (webkit limit). You can fix it by deleting everything in ~/.local/share/webkit/databases/file__0/

Thanks Simonas, that fixed my issue. I think it is nice to have a feature like to inform user about it if it is a 'webkit limit' issue, or LightRead should not allow to grow the database beyond it's capable operating limit.

I deleted everything in ~/.local/share/webkit/databases/file__0/ but now I get a white empty window when restarting Ligthread :(

It happened to me again and had to delete the database again. Before deleting database I had around 400 unread items in the database, I read every thing and deleted database. Once I delete the database, lightread showed all thise 400 items as unread again. so I had to go thru all of them to make sure I have read them. :(

@CarroarmatoO
It happened to me too. I logged out and login back, and restart lightread, that shoud fix it, if you still see blank screen try to restart 2-3 times after login/logout. It is pain to logout and login because unless you rememeber google app specific password for lightread, you have to revoke existing access and recreate the password.

I think unless they fix this issue, I have to delete/recreate password etc every 3-4 days. That's for sure force me to abonden this app and go back to Google Reader.

Another workaround: limit the number of kept news by adjusting the time for how long are they kept, e.g. 3 days and not forever.

From few days lightread is going crazy, I setup not to keep any read items, and I almost read all new items with in 2-3 hrs. So my total unread items count not even going more than 100. Still (as per iotop) lightread takes lots of hard disk activity, some times my system goes completely unresponsive, till I close the light read.

I also have the problem that every other day Lightread reaches that limit even though I’ve already set very low limits in the settings. Then it won’t update anymore, and I can also often observe the extreme hard drive activity. What also happens is that entries that I mark read with gReader on my phone remain unread in Lightread. To solve the issue I have to delete everything under databases/, otherwise I usually (but not always) get the white screen issue.

For now I temporarily worked around it by deleting everything and setting it up anew, then closing Lightread, creating a git repo inside databases/, committing the content, and always starting Lightread with this script:

$ cat /usr/local/bin/lightread
#!/bin/bash
cd ~/.local/share/webkit/databases/ && git reset --hard && cd -
/opt/extras.ubuntu.com/lightread/bin/lightread

As long as Lightread is the only application using this local storage, that shouldn’t have any nasty side effects. Whenever it behaves weirdly or I suspect that someone else might already have read a number of ostensibly unread entries, I just restart it.

But I hope it’ll be fixed soon anyway. :-)

My workaround was to move back to Google Reader. Because many of the applications are opened in my computer, when hard drive goes crazy, my system is unresponsive, some times by waiting couple of minutes and closing the lightread brings my machine back to normal. Last two times I waited 30+ mins still I wasn't able to close the lightread, so I had to hard reboot machine (lost some unsaved data, not major), so after experience this I thought I better stay away from lightread for a while till all the issues are fixed.

I also have this problem, dont know how it happens, but my workaround is to log out and log back in to my Google account.
