Items marked as read in Google Reader without being downloaded

This is the second or third time this happens to me but steps may not be accurate enough.

1- Sync LR with Google Reader so you will have some unread items.
2- Select and confirm "Mark all as read"
3- Close LR.

Wait some time to get some new unread items on Google Reader.

4- Restart LR.

At this moment, LR start but shows a blank screen. Menus actually work.
Check Google Reader to check if you have unread items.

4- Use "sync" from the main menu. Window will remain blank...
5- Close and restart LR. There will no be unread items.
6- Check Google Reader. All items had been marked as read.

I am unable to duplicate this in 1.2.2 on Ubuntu 12.04 x64.

I followed the steps. The window comes up blank, but then again it always does until you click on something. But after a brief sync, the unread total matched Google Reader.
