Does not work via an unautheticated proxy

Bug Description
When attempting to login when on a network with an unauthenticated proxy I receive the following error:
Could not sign in...
This is on Ubuntu 12.04

lightread seems to have zero support for any proxies. Please can the maintainer comment on this and look into implementing it? It makes the software completely useless for some that have proxies in place.
Anyone have a workaround?
