The patch didn't work for me on thunderbird 7.1 it installs but i cannot see the exchange in the list of remote calendars. This is extremely important since with the new ubuntu out there the default thunderbird is 7.1

Patch works for me, afaict. "Microsoft Exchange" shows up in the "remote calendar/Format" list. I've added my remote calendar but I'm not seeing any data in it yet. I suspect a local config problem.

I can add the Exchange calendar, but I can't see any data. No error messages. Same when creating a new calendar entry with TB, no error, no result. I use Thunderbird 8.0, Lightning 1.0 and Exchange Provider 0.17 on Windows 7.

No problem here, Lightning 1.0 and Exchange Provider 0.17 in Thunderbird 8.0 on CentOS 6 and in Thunderbird 7.1 in Ubuntu 11.10.

Mariano, did you restart TB? You're sure it installed correctly?

Phil, and Chris, did you get a password prompt? (Is the account info correct?)

All okay now here: I deleted the calendar, restarted TB and added the Exchange calendar again. This time it worked. I have no idea why it didn't before.
