Bug Description
I installed afresh 11.10 beta, updated, and recreated my old user by copying the folder to /home and creating a new user with the same name. I ended up by mistake getting the wrong ownership of the home folder.
From the login screen, when I choose the pre-existing user and type in the password, the screen goes blank as though it's going to loog in, but then it bounced right back to the log in screen with no error message.
The problem is that there's no indication of what went wrong, and there should be.

It probably shouldn't say why you couldn't log in, but it would be nice to say something like "Failed to start session, contact system administrator". The reason will be in the logs.
