Lubuntu 18.04 no login and moving resolution

Bug Description
I have upgraded my parents to Lubuntu 18.04
and i have observed the following behaviour
On first boot there is just a mouse cursor displayed on the screen. (no login window)
The only way to make appear the login window is to do alt + enter. Login fails and the login window appears.
If i also select others as a different login user the resolution changes and the screen does not take the full display it is shown only on a 3/4 of the screen.
I have noticed that the computer offer two resolution a laptop and VGA. I believe the error comes from here. If i select laptop the display is shown only on 3/4 of the screen. If i select the VGA output the resolution is correct.
I have been unable to fix this issue manually.
